Album story
Before they dominated the world with The Score, the trio was still finding their footing in this raw, experimental debut. It captures a group caught between street-level boom bap and their own unique, eclectic musical identity.
Production here leans heavily into gritty East Coast textures blended with subtle reggae influences that hint at their future direction. You can hear a young Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean testing the boundaries of what hip hop could sound like in the mid-nineties.
