Zach Condon channeled his fascination with early 20th-century French chanson and European brass bands to create this lush, cinematic record. He recorded much of the project in a small apartment, layering intricate arrangements of accordions, ukuleles, and flugelhorns to evoke the spirit of a bygone era.

Released during the height of the mid-2000s indie-folk boom, the album stands out for its ambitious, orchestral scope and melancholic, travelogue-inspired lyrics. It feels like a dusty postcard from a European town that exists only in memory, blending intimate bedroom pop with the grandeur of a traveling circus.
