Album story
Piano melodies anchor this record, serving as a direct response to the political and personal turbulence Lennon faced after the Beatles' breakup. The title track remains his most enduring anthem, yet the album also contains some of his most biting, raw lyrical confrontations.
Co-produced with Phil Spector, the sound leans into a polished yet intimate pop-rock aesthetic that feels both expansive and deeply personal. It captures a specific moment in the early seventies where the raw energy of the previous decade shifted toward a more introspective, studio-focused craft.
