Mahal

Emerging from the Melbourne scene with a distinctive visual identity defined by intricate golden masks, this project explores the intersection of 1970s psychedelic rock and the traditional sounds of the Indian subcontinent. Released through the prestigious Ninja Tune label, the EP continues a journey into hypnotic, instrumental grooves that draw heavily from the heritage of the artist's father, blending Western krautrock sensibilities with Eastern scales. The five tracks, including the title piece 'Mahal' and the rhythmic 'Snake Oil,' showcase a meticulous production style where vintage synthesizers meet serpentine guitar lines. This 2024 vinyl release captures a specific moment in the global psych-revival, emphasizing atmospheric textures and cyclical arrangements that bridge the gap between cinematic scoring and danceable, world-influenced rock.
