Soul music gets a wild, modern makeover here as Jamie Lidell channels the spirit of classic Stax records through a lens of pure electronic experimentation. It is a record that feels like a vintage jukebox malfunctioning in the best way possible, blending raw vocal grit with unpredictable, stuttering production.

Released on Warp Records during a time when the label was expanding its reach beyond IDM, this project sits right at the intersection of retro-funk and glitchy studio wizardry. You can hear the influence of Otis Redding and Prince colliding, creating a sound that is both deeply nostalgic and refreshingly restless.
