Album story
Ten of the fourteen tracks were recorded in a single, marathon ten-hour session at Abbey Road. The band played with such raw intensity that John Lennon famously saved his shredded vocal performance of 'Twist and Shout' for the very last take.
This record captures the high-energy sound of the early sixties Liverpool club scene before the polish of later studio experimentation. It relies on a mix of tight vocal harmonies and driving rock and roll covers that defined the band's live set at the Cavern Club.
