Griller

Emerging from the gritty No Wave scene of late 1970s New York before relocating to London, this trio redefined the boundaries of noise rock through a democratic approach to instrumentation where members frequently swapped roles. Originally recorded with Steve Albini at the helm in 1989, these sessions represent a pinnacle of their dissonant, angular sound, blending abrasive guitar textures with a haunting, rhythmic intensity. The tracks move fluidly between skeletal post-punk structures and explosive outbursts of feedback, reflecting the raw energy of the underground scenes on both sides of the Atlantic.

This 2022 reissue on the band's own Out Records label preserves the uncompromising spirit of a group that refused to adhere to traditional rock tropes. From the driving tension of "Safe Burning" to the claustrophobic atmosphere of the title track, the album serves as a masterclass in tension and release. It remains a vital document of the era's experimental fringe, showcasing a band that prioritized sonic exploration and structural subversion over commercial accessibility.
