Disco Devil Vol. 5 (6 More Classic Discomixes From The Black Ark Studio 1977-9)

Lee 'Scratch' Perry was the undisputed king of the extended dub experiment, and these discomixes represent the peak of his creative madness. He took standard reggae tracks and stretched them into hypnotic, sprawling soundscapes that feel like they are constantly unraveling and rebuilding themselves in real time.

Recorded at the legendary Black Ark studio between 1977 and 1979, these tracks capture the raw, hazy atmosphere of a true sonic laboratory. You can hear the tape hiss, the spring reverb, and the playful studio chatter that made Perry’s production style so inimitable during this golden era of Jamaican music.
