Chairs Missing

Wire ditched the frantic, three-chord minimalism of their debut to embrace a sprawling, experimental sound that felt like a total reinvention. They incorporated synthesizers and atmospheric textures, proving that punk could be cerebral and unsettling rather than just fast and loud.

Recorded in 1978, this record captures the band moving away from the London pub-rock scene and toward the art-school sensibilities that defined post-punk. The production is sharp and claustrophobic, perfectly mirroring the lyrical themes of alienation and suburban dread.
