Manufacturers Of Soul

Two titans of American music collide on this record, pairing the explosive, athletic vocal delivery of Jackie Wilson with the sophisticated, driving swing of the Count Basie Orchestra. It is a rare moment where the raw energy of 1960s soul meets the polished precision of big band jazz, resulting in high-octane versions of contemporary hits.

Recorded during a period when soul music was rapidly evolving, the album benefits from the crisp, punchy arrangements that defined the late sixties Brunswick sound. You get the feeling of a live stage show captured in the studio, where the brass section provides a muscular foundation for Wilson’s powerhouse performances.
