Leadbelly

Fred Karlin stepped away from his usual film scoring career to craft this unique tribute to the legendary folk icon Huddie Ledbetter. The record serves as a sincere, stripped-back exploration of American roots music that feels surprisingly intimate for a composer known for high-budget Hollywood production.

Mid-seventies recording techniques lend the project a warm, organic clarity that highlights the raw storytelling inherent in these traditional songs. It stands as a curious, understated detour that captures a specific moment when classic folk revivalism met the polished sensibilities of a seasoned cinematic arranger.
