Confusion Is Sex

Emerging from the gritty No Wave scene of lower Manhattan, this debut full-length captures the raw, abrasive energy of a band redefining the boundaries of the electric guitar. Utilizing unconventional tunings and physical objects like screwdrivers jammed under the strings, the recordings prioritize texture and dissonance over traditional melody. The inclusion of a live cover of The Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" serves as a bridge between the primal punk of the past and the experimental noise-rock future the group was pioneering.

Collaboration played a key role in the record's lyrical depth, notably on "The World Looks Red," which features words penned by Michael Gira of Swans. This intersection of New York's experimental elite helped define the album's claustrophobic and confrontational atmosphere. With its stark production and haunting vocal deliveries, the release remains a foundational document of the 1980s underground, marking the transition from art-school experimentation to a more structured, albeit still chaotic, sonic identity.
