Album story
Amon Tobin constructed this masterpiece almost entirely from manipulated jazz samples, chopping up breakbeats and double bass lines until they felt like something brand new. It remains a masterclass in sonic collage, proving that digital production could possess the warmth and soul of a live ensemble.
Ninja Tune was the perfect home for this record, capturing the experimental spirit of the mid-nineties UK electronic scene. The production feels dense and kinetic, reflecting a time when producers were pushing the boundaries of drum and bass to create something far more abstract and atmospheric.
