Tokyo Riddim 1976-1985

Japanese musicians in the late 70s and early 80s developed a unique fascination with Jamaican rhythms, blending them seamlessly into the burgeoning City Pop scene. This collection unearths rare tracks that showcase how artists like Minako Yoshida and Hitomi Tohyama experimented with reggae long before it became a global pop staple.

Synthesized basslines and breezy, sun-drenched melodies define the sound, creating a polished yet laid-back atmosphere. Crisp production techniques typical of the era give these tracks a sophisticated, high-fidelity sheen that makes the island grooves feel perfectly at home in a Tokyo high-rise.
