100th Window / Protection

These two records represent the definitive evolution of the Bristol trip-hop sound, shifting from the soulful, late-night warmth of the early nineties to a colder, more paranoid digital landscape. Listening to them back-to-back reveals how the group moved from sampling jazz and soul classics to crafting intricate, claustrophobic soundscapes that feel remarkably ahead of their time.

Protection captures the hazy, collaborative spirit of the Wild Bunch era, while 100th Window leans into a stark, electronic precision that reflects the anxieties of the post-millennial world. Both albums rely on the group's signature cinematic production style, utilizing deep bass and haunting vocal performances to create an immersive, nocturnal atmosphere.
