Black Classical Music

Drummer Yussef Dayes anchors this sprawling project in the rhythmic language of his heritage, treating the kit as a melodic instrument rather than just a timekeeper. It feels like a deeply personal diary, where every syncopated beat and soaring horn line serves as a tribute to the lineage of black music history.

Brownswood Recordings provides the perfect home for this fusion of contemporary jazz, hip-hop, and Afrobeat sensibilities. The production captures a raw, live energy that honors the improvisational spirit of the London scene while pushing the boundaries of modern jazz-funk.
