Richard D. James Album

Melodic sweetness meets frantic, drill-and-bass percussion in a way that feels deeply personal and slightly unhinged. It remains a masterclass in contrast, balancing fragile piano melodies against complex, stuttering rhythms that seem to glitch in real time.

Released on Warp Records during the mid-nineties, the record defines the experimental edge of the IDM scene. The production relies on intricate sampling and custom software, creating a soundscape that feels both futuristic and oddly nostalgic.
